12-Step Walking Meditation

An article in the August 2018 issue of Science of Mind Magazine, written by regular contributors Mark Waldman and Andrew Newberg, showcases the benefits of slowing way down when walking––even creating a meditation out of it. A list of suggested affirmations is provided to say with each step to help slow and center our mind and brain, a departure from the mindless way we typically approach this experience. The authors list ten, and they suggest “for extra credit” that we make up two more of our own to create our personal 12-Step Walking Meditation.

I love this idea! I’ll use some of theirs and their format, and add some of my own to make a meaningful 12-Step Walking Meditation that speaks to my recovery mindset, and hopefully to yours.

What mindful phrase would you like to use for yourself and share with us?

1. With this step, I choose to walk in truth.
2. With this step, I allow the past to fade, and trust the future to be bright.
3. With this step, I am willing to take the next.
4. With this step, I let my fears dissolve.
5. With this step, I celebrate the life I am creating.
6. With this step, I forgive myself for unkind acts.
7. With this step, I choose to walk in peace, and keep my side of the street clean.
8. With this step, I accept the love others give me.
9. With this step, I show patience and compassion for others and for myself.
10. With this step, I honor the lessons of my experiences, all of them.
11. With this step, I embrace the world with love.
12. With this step, I let my light shine and serve my fellows as best as I can.

In gratitude, harmony, and support,

Hello, I love them all and it is hard to choice just one. With this step I show patience and compassion for others, the And myself part is much harder for me. I would really like all. I need to write these down and read them everyday. Try to practice each one. Thank you for sharing this.
