“We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake…”

~Henry David Thoreau

“The breezes at dawn have secrets to tell you. Don’t go back to sleep.”

I’m Lena and I’m a snoozer. And though I’ve gotten better at not overdoing it, I’m wondering if I should stop cold turkey. Ya snooze, ya lose – does that mean me?

Interesting info in a book called The Miracle Morning for Addiction Recovery about the vitally important morning routine, particularly for those of us in recovery. It says a snooze button delays fully waking up, and steals time away from those “have to” moments like “I have to be at work. Or I have to take care of xyz.” Or even those “want to moments” like “I want to do my meditation, or my mindfulness breathing practice, or my exercise, or… or… or…” Snoozing starts the day with resistance energy. Every time the snooze button is hit, it signals resistance to the day, a delay to the experience of life, to the gift of a brand new day that not everyone gets. One day we won’t either.

I have been using Wake Up as a metaphor for that very beginning of our soul’s journey… that first deep, clear, inner rumbling that bubbles up and lets us know it’s time for a change at the cellular level … And that can be an entry to the recovery voyage.

But it hardly stops there. As we gain clarity, strength, energy and as things get better, another alarm of sorts informs us that something even greater is seeking to emerge… it’s the stirring of an awareness, but more than an awareness, it’s an idea. And more than an idea, it’s a call to action from the Self to the self. It’s an instruction to Wake Up on a deeper level, to a deeper level.

But beware the snooze button at this point. What causes that? Laziness? Procrastination? Fear?

I am asking myself these questions because I may be in snooze abuse and overuse mode. Am I signaling resistance energy to my ideas, plans, and projects?

I have many Wake Up ideas right now. But I’m also aware that I am exhibiting many snooze tendencies right now.

The very good news is that I am aware of this at least. I do know that awareness is the key––noticing what I’m noticing. I notice that I want to Wake Up, stay up, and step into what’s next. “Don’t go back to sleep.”

Do you notice a tendency to snooze at any particular times in your evolution? Do you snooze in real life or do you get up and at it easily?
How do you overcome the snooze paradigm?
Is there something that you’ve awakened to that you hitting the snooze button instead of leaping up and embracing it?

In gratitude, harmony, and support,
